Busy, busy, busy. No time for the tools of the wordsmith’s trade. But I can just squeeze in a wholehearted recommendation of Steven Wilson’s latest solo album release, The Harmony Codex.
Anyone who is at all familiar with Steven Wilson’s work will find no great surprises in this codex. And that’s just as it should be. The songs explore the full range of the progressive-rock/art-rock genre, taking us on a grand tour of melody, structure and harmony. And, in so doing, they manage to be both unsurprising, and delightfully unpredictable. The performances by S.W. himself and a raft of guest musicians are wonderful, and the production, as ever, is absolutely unparalleled.
Stream it, buy it, enjoy it. And file it under 5-star reviews.
