A frustrating 50 minutes later
Thank you for dropping in at the Crotchety Man blog. … We are currently experiencing a very high number of visitors. … <click><rustle> You are speaking to ‘Trevor’. How may I help you?
Hi, Trevor. I wonder if you could tell me something about the Swedish band, Paatos? When were they formed? Are they still active? Who was in the band? Is there a discography somewhere?
Part OS? How do you spell that?
‘P’, ‘a’, ‘a’, ‘t’, ‘o’, ‘s’. Like ‘pathos’, but with a double ‘a’ and no ‘h’.
Just a minute while I look them up. Hmm. We don’t seem to have a record of them here. They are probably no longer active. I’ll pass you over to our archive department. …
2 minutes and a weary sigh later
Maybe someone will come back to me eventually, but I’m not holding my breath any longer. I’ll just look them up on the ‘Net.
Here they are on Wikipedia, where it says they were formed in 1999 by Reine Fiske, Stefan Dimle, Ricard “Huxflux” Nettermalm and Johan Wallen, later adding Nettermalm’s wife, Petronella. They released a single (Perception/Tea) in 2001 and their debut album (Timeloss) came out the following year. In 2003, they came to the attention of Steven Wilson and provided the support act for Porcupine Tree on the Deadwing tour of 2006.
After their fifth album (V, 2012) the band seems to have fizzled out. And they would have escaped the attention of the Crotchety Team altogether if it wasn’t for the mention of Breathing in the Buried Treasure section of the latest email from Burning Shed.
